Hood River, Oregon
La Cense Horse: Chilligoe

I fell in love with LaCense Montana when I first went out there in May to look at their horses. I had read about them, visited their website, and corresponded with them for almost a year before I actually made the trip out. The ranch was even more impressive than I had imagined, and I was sure that I would find my new dream horse there. The people there made me feel right at home, and were wonderful to work with.

All the horses were wonderful in their own way, and I was looking for that extra special one. I soon discovered that the choice was not going to be easy. I rode seven different horses in a two day period, but from the time I first watched Emily ride her, I knew I had fallen in love with Chilligoe. The problem was that she wasn't technically ready for sale, and had some training yet to go. I would have to wait a couple more months if I wanted to have her. I decided she would be worth the wait. When she was ready to go, I made another trip to Montana to do a final approval. I was excited and nervous both, hoping that I had made the right decision. The first evening we were there, my husband and I walked from the lovely ranch cabin we were staying in down to the pastures where the horses had been turned out. There were about 30 mares in the group that Chilligoe was with and we were trying to pick her out in the distance, talking about what a tough decision it was. A small group of about 8 horses began to make their way over toward the fence where we were standing. I thought she was in that group, but wasn't quite sure. They stopped a ways away, and as I was wishing that they would come closer, one lone horse came away from that small group and walked right up to us. It was Chilligoe, and I almost cried as she stood there and let us pet her. They say at LaCense that the horse sometimes chooses the person, and I am a true believer. I went there looking for my dream horse, and she found me! Thanks to the people and the horses of LaCense.
