Placerville, CA
La Cense Horse: Chili (renamed Rowdy)

My husband, Peter, and I have traveled to many far away and exotic, wonderful places. We have had many memorable and exciting adventures along the way. But for me, the journey and subsequent 3-day stint at La Cense Montana is at the very top of my favorites list!

In May of 2004 we drove from our Placerville, CA home to La Cense Montana to possibly find a special Quarter Horse for me. We had considered a visit to La Cense because I did not want another horse with an unknown history and/or one that was backyard bred. Even though I did not intend to necessarily purchase a horse there at La Cense, I was curious. So I promised my husband that I would keep an "open mind" to the possibility of a purchase (it was Peter who had decided to go ahead and make the appointment to visit the ranch, even though he does not ride). His decision was the right one.

The La Cense staff was fabulous and treated us like family. We stayed in the Ranch's historic, very romantic, and comfortable cabin during our stay.

I rode several great Quarter Horses while there, but made a connection with only ONE! The instant connection with a 4-year-old red roan gelding was unexpected for me, but it happened! He became a 'definitely' after a long trail ride with him. During our trail ride he and I watched with great interest while the spring calves were being branded the 'cowboy way!'

Rowdy, (Pep Ups Hot) aka Chili-while at the ranch-is my best friend and extremely intelligent. His is both a partner and a pet. Rowdy is quiet, calm, and very playful when he gets to know you. We are finishing up our Level 2 in PNH together. Rowdy has taught me so much about horses and each day he teaches me some more. I would return to La Cense Montana in a heartbeat if I wanted to add another member to our family/herd!
